A historic women’s monastery in Solothurn
The Convent of the Holy Name of Jesus in Solothurn was founded in 1609 and is the oldest women’s monastery in the canton. For over 400 years, Capuchin nuns have been living and working here according to the ideals of St. Francis and St. Clare. The convent is hidden behind high walls in the Steingruben district and includes a historic building complex with extensive corridors, a refectory, a library and a wafer bakery. The adjoining convent garden is home to a variety of plants, including kiwis, grapes, berries, herbs, roses and vegetables.
